Принцип рада хладњака је пренос топлоте из апликација са вишим температурама, као што су ЦПУ, ГПУ или друге електронске компоненте, на подручје ниже температуре као што је амбијентални ваздух, расхладна течност или други медијум кроз проводљивост и конвекцију.

Heat sink can be classified into two types for cooling patterns: Air cooled heat sink and liquid cooled heat sink. Now we are introducing the air cooled heat sinks which are designed to transfer the heat from hot side to cold side through air as fluid medium, it's a passive heat exchanger to cool down the electronic components regulate its working temperature. Usually we design a heat sink to increase the surface which contact with the surrounding medium, so when designing a heat sink, the volume of fins, the fin pitchs, pressure drop, thermal resistance need to be considered.
